DancePlus Fall*
Alcyone (World Premiere)
Guest Choreographer: Stuart Loungway.
Utilizing an ensemble cast, the work abstractly examines the intensity and fleeting and mercurial nature of new romance, and the myriad of emotions that defines each individual's experience in encountering young love. Employing the sheer physicality of contemporary ballet and the passionate viola orchestrations of 17th-century composer, Marin Marais, the piece stirringly evokes a landscape of remembrances of things past.
Walking with Pearl...Southern Diaries
Guest Choreographer: Jawole Willa Jo Zollar – Artistic Director of Urban Bush Woman
This work received a Bessie in 2007. The work is inspired by the legacy and words of Dr. Pearl Primus and her time spent researching the lives of African Americans and poor people in the South in the 1940's. The work explores the anger and frustration of low-wage workers, sharecroppers and those on the bottom of society's rung.
This program is supported in part by the NJPAC Alternate Routes Residency program of New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
